Mark Powell, BSc., Ost.
Mark came to Osteopathy following numerous motorcycle accidents that culminated into a severe trauma involving a London bus. Amazed at how manual therapy involving both physiotherapy and osteopathy helped him regain his mobility and start riding again, he chose to leave his career as a London Black taxi driver and began his journey to Osteopathy.
Mark graduated from the prestigious College of Osteopaths in London, England earning an honours degree, with his thesis focusing on respiratory effects of the diaphragm on peak flow rate. While studying for his degree in Osteopathy he completed the APNT sports massage and injury rehabilitation therapy diploma. Mark is a member of the British Complementary Medicine Association and registered with the General Osteopathic Council, the British Osteopathic Association and Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners.
Mark became the first UK trained Osteopath to have gained the APTEI Acupuncture & Dry Needling Certification, and was asked to return as a teaching facilitator. More recently Mark has successfully gained another first for being “Graston technique” certified and has obtained the full M2 training. Mark is currently pursuing his “Eat to Perform” coaches programme certification. And is due to commence the McGill Spine rehab programme.
All Osteopaths have a slightly different approach to treatment based on their educational background, understanding and experience. Mark’s approach focuses heavily on patient education to remove the anxiety and uncertainty associated with pain, empowering patients to take control. Mark continues to take advanced orthopaedic training to ensure his patients benefit from the latest professional practices.
His approach focuses on sound examination and diagnosis followed by the formulation of a treatment plan with a home care plan to inspire patients to be part of their recovery.
Outside of clinic life Mark is a keen cyclist and a registered Ontario boxer and enjoys being outside hiking, cycling and discovering new places in nature with his fiancé.
